Unless you live in one of the few regions of the world where snow is nothing more than an image on TV, suede shoes should not be a part of your “winter” wardrobe as specified by outdated fashion codes. As a delicate material, suede has no place being worn on our feet through snow, salt, and the eventual slush that makes up most winters. I don’t care how many products claim to protect against the cruel actions of Mother Nature, there is nothing that will keep your shoes alive in these conditions. In my closet I currently have 4 pairs of beautiful suede “winter” boots, which have yet to see the outdoors, and won’t be doing so until I am assured this polar vortex has concluded. So, as a protest to the harsh treatment of suede shoes everywhere, I am now adopting this as a summer style and ending the cruelty we have been imposing for years. I hope you will all see the light and join me on my fashion quest ;)

Shorts. Most often associated with warm weather, shorts are a year round staple in my wardrobe. Whether it be with tights or bare legs, I find shorts to be a comfortable fashion statement that can be dressed up and down. Today I chose BCBG shorts with my boyfriends Diesel long sleeve shirt to contrast the tight fitting bottoms. To keep my legs warm without tights, I wore my knee-highs and suede Stuart Weitzman booties (these were for style, not so much for function!). Finally, I topped off the all black look with several gold accessories.
Stay tuned for more of my favorite black and gold ensembles! My Favorite Nail Art Looks! Being a student with a serious shopping addiction, it’s often tough to control my urge to raid the local mall. Luckily, there are a few guilty pleasures I can indulge in to satisfy the craving. As we all know, manicures have recently crossed the barrier from female upkeep to fashion must-have. Nail art is a great way to spice up your style without breaking the bank, and luckily it’s something that can also be done in the comfort of your own home. A little bit of pampering goes a long way when money is tight, and manicures (done yourself or by a professional) are always a great pick-me-up! Above is a picture of my current black and gold nail art, along with some of my favorite manis over the past few months!
Although Valentine’s Day is a complete Hallmark Holiday, it is also an excuse to spend time with loved ones and show them how much you care (vomit slightly). This year, I was lucky enough to spend it with two incredibly handsome and talented men: my boyfriend and Justin Timberlake. Even though Valentine’s Day is super cheese for the most part, it was a great opportunity to add some romance to my relationship, and more importantly, to see JT live in action. For anyone who has yet to see their teenage heartthrob take the stage solo, I highly suggest investing in an upcoming show. In regards to the rest of my Valentine’s Day, I spent it with a glass of wine and a beautiful vintage red YSL bag handed down to me by my Grandma….who knew raiding her kitchen cupboards would result in such treasure!
As a lover of fashion, I always want my boyfriend to look good. But shopping for him doesn't necessarily mean there is no benefit for myself. For years now, menswear inspired womenswear has been seen on the runways and in the streets. And now, conquering this style can be made even easier by "borrowing" from your significant other. This simple concept will allow you to sport the hottest trends, without of purchasing a whole new wardrobe for yourself. Everyone knows that being a fashionista on a budget isn't easy, but doubling your wardrobe, in this case, will cost you nothing. My simple trick to keeping the look feminine is a pair of leather leggings and a heeled bootie. As long as one womanly feature is emphasized, your menswear pieces will look edgy and chic, without overpowering your figure. All of the mens clothing above is from Rag & Bone and can be found on their website. The accessories are from a selection of designers found on saks.com. And lastly, the leather leggings are by Helmut Lang.
What is there to say about McQueen? A creative genius, taken from us too early, Alexander McQueen will always be one of my favourite designers. Since the day Nicole Richie first donned her skull scarf, I have been a fan of the design house's dark fashion sense. Every piece is a unique blend of fashion and art, making him one of the most influential designers of our time. Given my obsession with black and gold, I selected my favourite pieces in these colours. To check out details on my selections, visit my polvore page: http://brittanywass.polyvore.com
Even though this trend has been around for quite some time, I've recently found myself fascinated with the idea of wearing an outfit composed entirely of colours from a single hue. One of the main benefits that can be seen from wearing this style is the elongation of the body.....and what woman wouldn't want to look longer and leaner? In addition to flattering your physique, monochromatic styles allow you to focus less on colour matching, and more on the unique look of your outfit. So, next time you're in your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear, try less to match, and more to find an outfit that flows well.
Guilty. The distressed trend has come and gone several times in the past few years, but I still find myself adding new pieces to my collection. My favourite way to style this look is with tailored fashion items, giving the outfit a semi-grunge look (without appearing entirely homeless). Maintaining balance is a good way to wear more fashionable/trendy styles, without overwhelming your outfit. One pairing I love is boyfriend jeans with tailored blazers and pumps. Nothing has excited me recently as much as the return of overalls...especially in leather. What can be considered the original "romper," overalls are a funky fashion item that can be dressed up, or down, depending on your mood. This leather pair looks incredibly stylish when paired with a cropped black tee, suede wedges, and of course, fabulous accessories. In addition to the overalls, my other obsession is also an old favourite, the backpack! The backpack featured in the spread above is McQueen, and exists only in my dreams. However, there are several affordable options on the market now for those of us who don't have $2,000 to spare! Last, but not least, is the incredible Nala coat by DVF. I'm absolutely loving the ombre style and the incredibly rich colour palette utilized. An oversized coat is a must have for everyone's wardrobe, and they are available at every price point.
