Although I’m not typically a fan of plaid shorts, I absolutely fell in love with these when I first saw them in NYC. They are Rachel by Rachel Roy, one of my favorite (reasonably-priced), designers. When wearing plaid, I always make sure to add something feminine, otherwise the masculine flair of plaid tends to overpower the look. Luckily, the shorts were designed with a lace trim at the bottom, so there wasn’t much left for me to do. For plaid tops I tend to wear skinny jeans, booties or heels, and several accessories to top off the style. Another look I love is leather with plaid. They are extremely different fabrics, and I think the mixing of styles creates an incredible contrast.
When wearing a masculine ensemble, I always make sure to bring feminine elements to the mix to create a balanced look. Today I'm sporting my boyfriend's army green jacket, a black tank, and cuffed blank denim jeans. Although the jacket is a bit overpowering, I have added my favorite baubles to offset the manly vibe. Be sure to always mix and match elements to keep your outfit exciting and balanced! As I’ve expressed before, I have a big weakness for monochromatic looks. And, if you couldn’t tell from the photos, I’m really feeling the blues today. Known to many as the Canadian tuxedo, I am sporting a denim look with my Zara shirt and Paige jeans. All together this outfit takes on two big trends of the past few seasons (monochromatic and denim-on-denim) to make for a flattering and stylish look. Next time you’re getting dressed, experiment with your color palette. You might just surprise yourself with an awesome, and unexpected, monochromatic outfit!
No longer reserved for the world’s strongest men and women, army print is the new neutral. Offered in a variety of different colors, I still prefer the classic camo green to any of the fancy new styles. Dressed up with heels and a cop top, or tucked into a leather skirt, camouflage is extremely versatile and a fashion must-have. If you have yet to add a piece to your wardrobe, I suggest checking out Zara, H&M, or your favorite boutique, to spice up your collection. When hearing the word aluminum, the first thing that comes to mind is the foil we often wrap our leftovers in. Thankfully, David Yurman is much more creative and artistic, turning aluminum into stunning pieces of fun colorful jewelry. I have long been a fan of Yurman's work, and I find his collections to be classy, sophisticated, and extremely elegant. However, this new bracelet is a game changer, thrusting him into a more youthful category. If you have some spare cash to spend, I highly suggest investing in one of these stunning, limited edition pieces! One topic I haven't yet covered is my everlasting love for the romper. As a shorts addict, the romper is my perfect ensemble for any occasion. I absolutely adore the versatility it provides, and the simplicity of wearing only one piece of clothing. The romper pictured above is a long sleeve, sheer, navy BCBGeneration piece I snagged at Macy’s over 2 years ago. I love the brand’s feminine and flirty touch, and most importantly, I love their price point!! I paired my outfit with Steve Madden booties and Club Monaco necklaces to spice it up a bit. This outfit can easily be transitioned to nighttime with some flirty pumps and additional accessories. Check out BCBGeneration’s website for details on their most recent romper style: BCBGeneration
When choosing an outfit for my boyfriend's birthday dinner, I struggled a bit with the balance of sexy and classy……a combo which is difficult to pull off! I ended up choosing a denim Rag & Bone button down top with leather trim, and my favorite leather shorts. In order to amp up my somewhat “conservative” outfit, I chose my knee-high, suede, Calvin Klein boots. Because, as we all know, there is a difference between looking attractive and stylish according to our fellow females, and sporting a “hot” outfit for the men in our lives. By accentuating my legs and remaining more conservative on top, I was able to master the male appeal and the female style I always aim for!
Making their second debut in my short lifetime, boyfriend jeans are back. Although I find them to be a great look when styled the right way, I don't find their price to be equally appealing. When spending money on a fashion trend, I try not to invest unless it's something I see lasting for more than two seasons. The jeans pictured above are a moderately priced boyfriend distressed look from GAP. I typically am one to invest in my denim, but when it comes to the boyfriend style, I wasn't prepared to spend over $100 for something I knew I wouldn't be wearing for long. So far, I am enjoying the quality and wash of these GAP jeans, and I'm especially loving the price tag!
He's done it again. Elie Saab is a genius, and if you can't see why from these photos, then I fear for your fashion sense. His colour palette is consistently impeccable, lines are always flattering to the female body, and his fabric choices are luxurious and wearable. There is not a single piece from his Fall 2014 RTW collection which didn't make me weak in the knees. I urge you to check out his full collection here: http://www.wwd.com/runway/fall-ready-to-wear-2014/review/elie-saab. Prepare to be amazed!
