Even though this trend has been around for quite some time, I've recently found myself fascinated with the idea of wearing an outfit composed entirely of colours from a single hue. One of the main benefits that can be seen from wearing this style is the elongation of the body.....and what woman wouldn't want to look longer and leaner? In addition to flattering your physique, monochromatic styles allow you to focus less on colour matching, and more on the unique look of your outfit. So, next time you're in your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear, try less to match, and more to find an outfit that flows well.

Guilty. The distressed trend has come and gone several times in the past few years, but I still find myself adding new pieces to my collection. My favourite way to style this look is with tailored fashion items, giving the outfit a semi-grunge look (without appearing entirely homeless). Maintaining balance is a good way to wear more fashionable/trendy styles, without overwhelming your outfit. One pairing I love is boyfriend jeans with tailored blazers and pumps. Nothing has excited me recently as much as the return of overalls...especially in leather. What can be considered the original "romper," overalls are a funky fashion item that can be dressed up, or down, depending on your mood. This leather pair looks incredibly stylish when paired with a cropped black tee, suede wedges, and of course, fabulous accessories. In addition to the overalls, my other obsession is also an old favourite, the backpack! The backpack featured in the spread above is McQueen, and exists only in my dreams. However, there are several affordable options on the market now for those of us who don't have $2,000 to spare! Last, but not least, is the incredible Nala coat by DVF. I'm absolutely loving the ombre style and the incredibly rich colour palette utilized. An oversized coat is a must have for everyone's wardrobe, and they are available at every price point. At first glance, this Chanel ring is a fun and whimsical addition to any outfit. However, this ring holds much greater meaning than what is on the surface. Given to me as a gift by my grandma, this ring symbolizes both our love for each other and my first taste of designer fashion. I have loved Chanel since the day I first learned about Coco and Karl. But as a 24 year old student, high end luxury is not something I can necessarily afford. This piece of costume jewelry gave me a little taste of high fashion, and the life I strive to live. My ring is a symbol of the path I was destined to take and my love for the fashion industry. I thank my grandma for giving me the key to my future, and Chanel for being forever fabulous! Although my typical outfit is similar to a Bloomies uniform, I decided to add a pop of color today for my interview. This Club Monaco silk scarf is a must have for people like me who need accent pieces to spice up their wardrobe. Luckily interview apparel no longer has to be drab, especially in the fashion industry. I was able to rock my many black and gold rings, as well as a stretch pant and booties. I guess my take on the new interview style worked because I got the job ;) One of my favourite new discoveries (yes, I'm aware its not new) is Polyvore. As a fashion addict, this site allows me to not only shop, but put together collections of my favourite pieces. Recently I have become a bit jewelry crazed, especially with all things black and gold. Although many of the pieces are only on my wish list, I feel its always good to have something to strive towards. Some of the more moderate costume jewelry brands I've been shopping are: Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Henri Bendel, Vince Camuto and House of Harlow. All of these brands offer fashionable pieces at a moderate price. For more information on the specific "bobbles" below, check out my Polyvore account: http://brittanywass.polyvore.com
A saying coined by the Brits is one I will always admire: give it a go. Much more encouraging than some of the more popular American expressions for trying something new, this one really clicked with me. With my first blog post ever, I am "giving it a go" myself by doing something completely new and foreign to me. I have always admired those who are brave enough to put their words out there for the world to see. However, this admiration has never given me courage enough to attempt the task myself. By putting this in writing, I am hoping to solidify my commitment to doing something new in my life, blog. Keep checking back, as I promise to publish exciting fashion content, as well as ineresting stories from my daily life!
